Description

This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It is designed to provide training for community workers working with individuals who experience problems associated with mental illness. Students would be trained to work in a wide variety of community settings. They would learn about interviewing, client support skills, advocacy skills, the nature of mental health and mental illness as well as preventative, educational and other community strategies relevant to work in the mental health field.

Subjects

Core: Orientation to work in the mental health sector; Provide support; Undertake administrative work; Utilise specialist communication skills; Deliver and develop client service; Maintain organisation's information systems system; Maintain effective networks; Follow the organisation's occupational health and safety policies; Maintain an effective work environment; Contribute to policy development. Electives: Work with other services; Advocate for clients; Support community participation; Provide community education programs; Meet information needs of the community; Develop community resources; Plan and conduct group activities; Undertake research activities; Train small groups

Entry Requirements

No minimum education. Preference is given to those who have work experience
