TAFE Qualifications
TAFE qualifications are developed with the needs of business and industry in mind and therefore constantly improving to meet the needs of industry.
TAFE Institutes offer full time, part time, day time and night time classes plus the option of courses online. The flexibility TAFE provides means you can get started in your chosen career straight away or organise your study around your work and home life.
With TAFE you can obtain credit for previous study or for your work and then even take your study further and apply for a University admission. Alternatively you may have already completed all or part of a university degree and look to TAFE to gain practical training to improve your employment prospects.
TAFE has Certificates (four levels), Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses, all of which are fully nationally accredited, to qualify people for all kinds of jobs (see the diagram below for further explanation).

Certificate I
Covers training in basic skills and routine tasks. -
Certificate II
Allows you to acquire operational knowledge in skill areas where you can apply solutions to problems. -
Certificate III
Teaches you additional theoretical knowledge and encourages you to develop higher skills for solving a variety of problems. -
Certificate IV
Develops a broad knowledge base, teaching you to analyse and evaluate information and to apply the knowledge and skills to a wide variety of contexts. -
Diploma
Gives you theoretical knowledge and/or technical and creative skills. Judgment, planning and analysis are involved across a broad range of technical and/or management situations. -
Advanced Diploma
Recognises the ability to apply principles and techniques in a wide range of contexts. This is the highest qualification offered by TAFE Instiutes.
What job/career can I get with a TAFE qualification?
TAFE provides training for a range of occupations and levels in all industries. The level at which you enter your career or raise in your current employment may depend on the TAFE qualification you receive when you finish your course and the position you obtain.
- Advanced Diploma courses provide training for supervisory and middle management positions, or for operating at a high level of expertise within a particular skill area.
- Diploma courses provide training for the skills necessary for supervisory positions, for running a small business, for working closely with experienced professionals, or for operating at a high level in a technical capacity.
- Certificate IV courses are skills based and prepare students for working in areas which may require complex skills.
- Certificate III courses provide skills for entry level positions in many industries.
